Tree is set up for the cats

In my video, I demonstrate a unique approach to Christmas tree decorating that prioritizes the enjoyment and safety of my cats.

Instead of using fragile ornaments, I decorate the tree with cat toys, interactive lights, and a battery-powered star. This creates a festive atmosphere that engages both myself and my cats during the holiday season.

The pleasant scent of pine also adds a touch of nature indoors for the cats’ enjoyment.

I admire the beauty of elaborately decorated trees. However, I believe that this approach allows for more interaction and fun for my feline companions.

Stuff to put on the tree

  • spiral cat toys
  • toy mice
  • non-breakable ornaments
  • other lightweight cat toys
  • colored pipe cleaners-great for making shapes and hanging
  • cat fishing rod
  • no-glass frames
  • catnip and treats

It’s easy! Many of the cat toys were already around. No storage boxes to store in. I store the holiday ornaments in holiday tins and tuck them under the tree.

Make sure to engage the cats

Gift boxes and beds

I taped up empty delivery boxes and cut the holes before wrapping. Canned cat food cardboard trays were wrapped for cat nap boxes.

Tree lights

Instead of string lights, I used remote controlled tea lights. Metal clips and tacky clay were placed underneath the tea lights. They help them stay on the tree branches. The star is battery operated with a very short cord. I made sure the cord is wrapped around the branch securely and stuffed the battery case inside a stocking.

Go for nice purr-fect holiday photos

I previously had a small artificial Christmas tree. One of my cats chewed on it and vomited up the pieces. I had to dispose of it. Now I opt for a live tree, securing it in a tree stand. After the holiday season, I place the tree outside in the area where my cats play.

I avoid ornaments that have sharp hangers. I replace them with colored pipe cleaners.

No string lights, of course!

Cat-mas

For several years, I’ve been trying different ways to set up a cat-friendly Christmas tree. The cats like the tree best in the middle of the room. It is surrounded by a chair, a small table, and a tall piece of furniture. These items give them different levels to play on around the tree. I decorate the tree a little bit each day, and the cats always notice and join in the fun.

Have fun!
