Wood Stepladder as a Piece of Furniture/Big Toy for Cats Combo

A six foot wood stepladder is a worthy item for a multi cat household. Both my home and the catio have high ceilings, which present challenges when attempting to access items on high shelves or other out-of-reach areas.

A wood stepladder is better than a metal one as it is more aesthetically pleasing, easier for cats to climb, and can have shelves added. Additionally, it serves as a scratching post, helping to trim cats’ claws and prevent furniture damage.

I have two stepladders that I use for different purposes around my home. One is used inside the house, and the other is used in the catio for the winter season.

Stepladder with Add-Ons

The stepladder I use inside the house is equipped with two wood shelves made from 1×2 and 1×3. left the metal rotating brackets alone, as I find them to be very handy for hanging up wet towels or hooded covers for the cats. I also use outdoor seating cushions with velcro straps to wrap around the brackets to keep the ladder from falling over.

Stepladder Without Add-Ons

In the catio, I keep my stepladder in both open and closed positions. The closed position is more convenient for moving around. The ladder’s design allows me to attach hammocks for bedding, which can remain in place even when the ladder is folded for storage. This feature simplifies the storage process when the ladder is not in use.

Cat Wheel

The wheel is also a great thing to have. Not all of the cats use it the same manner. Roxy likes to go on it and walk for awhile. She will sometimes walk on it for 10-15 minutes at a time. Harvey and Mojo go there sometimes to run or get my attention. They will run on it for a few minutes, then jump off and meow at me. The drawback about those wheels is that the plastic wheels make a lot of noise when the cats run on them, and it can be annoying. Another drawback to the plastic wheels is that they can get dusty below the wheel.

Overall, I think the wheel is a great big toy to have for my cats. It gives them a place to exercise and burn off energy. However, I would like to have a wood wheel that is installed on the wall. This would be quieter, look better, and be easier to clean.
