Mother Nature’s surprise toy for cats
Initially, our maple tree was a volunteer that grew exceptionally tall. Unfortunately, a violent windstorm split the tree in half. Fortuitously, the tree did not cause any damage to the house or the catio. Witnessing the tree’s demise saddened me. It reminded me of the book “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein, which I read as a child. I referred to this tree as the “Given Tree” because it sacrificed itself in one brief burst, leaving only the stump behind. Our entire family cherished the tree. The Herd particularly adored its bark texture, which was perfect for scratching their claws, and its stability allowed them to climb it with ease.
Mountain View Theater
After branching away from the “Given Tree”, I am grateful for the expansive mountain view, increased sunshine, a sturdy scratching post, and a safe, climbable bark that allows my furry friends to reach the roof. As I recline on the chaise lounge alongside Wolfie the Wobbly and my ample mug of coffee, I enthusiastically embrace whatever impromptu performance the Herd may present at any given moment.
